I've attached the hardhat mount to the deck plate of my canoe for night portages and paddles and it worked pretty decently. Comes with the normal headlamp strap, and a pocket clip thing normally.
BLACK DIAMOND STORM HEADLAMP WHINING NOISE FREE
Last year I upgraded to an Armytek Elf C2 multilight thing in "white" light, it was about $65USD and I got free shipping and a hardhat attachment, bike handlebar attachment, and a weapon attachment with it from a promo they were having. Hopefully they've fixed that issue lately. Trying out other ones in store, they all had that terrible whining noise, so I think it was an issue with the design.
One thing to note, I went with a friend to MEC and he bought the newer version of the spot (or maybe it was the storm?) in store last year and it had this terrible, high pitched whining noise while it was on that really bugged him, so he returned it. It still works great, I keep it in case someone needs an extra. Hanging the food bag at night, I wouldn't be able to see very well. It got the job done, but it wasn't powerful enough for my liking. It took 3 AAA batteries, not waterproof but I never had trouble even in heavy rain. I think it's something like 80lm max and would adjust down to a real dim setting, also has a 'peripheral' mode and a red light mode which were adjustable as well, and 2 strobe options. I used a Black Diamond Spot for around 6 years, the old version before they redesigned them. I couldn't even tell you the model, honestly. I've also brought a MASSIVE coleman battery operated lantern before and it was honestly super bulky and heavy, but it got the job done. Takes 3 AA batteries, waterproof to 1m, allegedly floats. It does 50/100/200 lumen white, a 0.7lm red, and flashing red.
I'm not quite certain on the exact model, but I'm fairly sure my buddy brings the Streamlight Seige AA and likes it. I actually wrote the only review on MEC's website and have a YouTube video attached, if you want my thoughts on it you can look at that. Runs on a 16340 that has a micro-usb built in so you can charge it, which is pretty nifty, or you can run it on a disposable CR123 with some difference in run-time.
Not sure if you have a specific budget for each, but I do a lot of canoe trips as well and this is what me and a friend use:įenix CL09 mini lantern - $48CAD, Super tiny, waterproof to 2m, four white light settings (1/30/80/200 lumens) a 5lm green, 5lm red, and flashing red. For example: For a video comparing different gear the "TLDW" comment should contain, at a minimum, the list of gear compared, and a basic overview of how the review is conducted.
